Damdami Taksali had been a religious group of Sikhs. Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale took birth on 12th February 1947 and breathed his last in June 1984. He had openly supported the Anandpur Sahib Resolution and called for “pure” roots of the religion of Sikhism. He opposed the liquor consumption and laxness in Sikhism like cutting of hair by youth of Sikhs. Jarnail Singh was also against Article 25 of constitution of India which declares Jains, Buddhists and Sikhs to be minorities as well as belong to Hinduism.

History

According to history, Bhindranwale along with Akali Dal in August 1982 had launched the Dharam Yudh Morcha and its objective was to fulfill the demands put forward by Anandpur Sahib Resolution. History says that millions of people came up for the movement and were hoping to acquire a bigger share of irrigation water as well as Chandigarh to be returned to Punjab. Bhindranwale is popularly known as he had opposed Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister for making policies which were against Punjab at the time of Dharam Yudh Morcha. There was an army operation which was ordered by her for flushing out the terrorists which were believed to be led by Bhindranwale in which he got killed. He has been regarded as a great martyr by Sikh folks, however, the history has found lots of controversies related to him.

Operation blue star

Operation Blue Star had been a military operation which took place from 3rd June to 8th June and came up as an order of Indira Gandhi for removing Jarnail Singh along with his followers from Golden Temple of Amritsar in the Indian state of Punjab. He had been accused of collecting weapons in Harmandir Sahib for starting a prominent uprising of arms. This is what had been the belief of Akal Takhat which justified keeping weapons in the Gurudwara as per Sikhism precincts.

The Operation Blue Star consisted of 2 things: Operation Metal which remained confined to the complex of Harmandir Sahib as well as Operation Shop which believed that the Punjabi countryside has the right for capturing any suspects. After that, there was the launching of Operation Woodrose for scanning thoroughly the countryside of Punjab. This operation was handled by the troops of Indian Army having helicopters, artillery, chemical weapons and tanks. According to sources, there were 492 civilians who got killed in it, however, people say that the number was much higher, around 5,000.

Because of all these things going around, tension prevailed in the entire country and specifically among the Sikh community. A large number of soldiers left the armed forces and administrative offices as well. Many of them also returned their awards received by them by the government of India.

It was 4 months later that Indira Gandhi was assassinated on 31st October 1984 by her Sikh bodyguards named as Beant Singh and Sarwant Singh. As a result, there were over 3000 Sikh assassinated in the Anti-Sikh riots. Operation Blue Star holds a great historical significance and is sometimes referred to as ‘the great massacre’.

In January 2012, Canada-based H&R REIT has purchased Hess Tower, an 868,000 square-foot, Class A office building located at 1501 McKinney Street in the Central Business District, from a joint venture of Trammell Crow Co and Principal Real Estate Investors. The three-year-old building is fully occupied by Hess Corp and average rents stand at $30.00 per square foot. The 30-story building sold for a reported $445 million and was marketed by Russell Ingrum of CBRE Group Inc. The property has access to Mckinney St, La Branch St, Walker st.
